What does 'attempted international delivery' mean, and what should I do now?

I'm tracking a parcel I'm having delivered to the UK by USPS, and it just popped up with this message:

Status: Attempted Delivery Abroad

We attempted to deliver your item in GREAT BRITAIN at 12:56 pm on August 04, 2006.

I live in a University hall. What does this mean? Does this mean it's there? Did the address go wrong? What should I do now? I need the package very badly.
